2016 Grease Recycling and Pharmaceutical Disposal Event
On Saturday, August 6, Columbus Water Works, Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Department are teaming up to host a community-wide Grease Recycling and Pharmaceutical Disposal Event!  We will be at K-Mart on Macon Road and K-Mart on Airport Thruway from 10 am to 2 pm collecting used cooking grease and expired or unused medications.

Used cooking oil that is poured down the sink, flushed down the toilet or poured through a garbage disposal can gel and solidify into thick layers.  When this occurs within drainpipes and sewer lines, it can constrict water flows, clog sewer pipes and possibly back up into your home plumbing system.  At CWW, our grease recycling program provides our customers with a convenient and environmentally-friendly way to dispose of used cooking oils.  In addition, we process the used cooking grease to use as a supplemental power source for our wastewater treatment plant. There are also eight (8) stationary drop-off sites for used cooking oils located throughout Columbus.  These sites are available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week for your convenience.

Our pharmaceutical disposal initiative is designed to encourage the proper disposal of medicines and help reduce environmental concerns that may be caused by flushing these items down the sink or toilet.

Both of these programs reflect our core value of “Environmental Stewardship” and are a part of our strategic initiative and vision to protect the environment.
Please join us in our efforts by bringing your used cooking grease and expired or unused medications for recycling and proper disposal.
