Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2019
mlk“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character…” Fifty-five years ago Dr. Martin Luther King envisioned a future where all, regardless of race, were equal. As a prominent civil rights leader, Dr. King led a nonviolent protest to achieve genuine racial equality. During the 13 years of his leadership over the Civil Rights Movement, using the power of words and nonviolent actions, African Americans were able to achieve the progress needed for true racial equality. The King Center regards Dr. King as one of the greatest nonviolent leaders in world history. To achieve such status Dr. King drew inspiration from the Christian faith and the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Regardless of color or creed, Dr. Martin Luther King led peaceful- nonviolent campaigns to support equality.

Dr. King has authored some of the most acclaimed writings in the English language, such as the “I Have a Dream” speech and the “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”.  His accomplishments are taught in English and History classes nationwide. Alongside these accomplishments, Dr. King is the only non-president to have a national holiday dedicated in his remembrance.  In remembrance of Dr. King and his legacy, let’s love one another regardless of our differences. Let’s unite as Americans in declaration of equality and justice for all.
