Columbus Water Works, Keep Columbus Beautiful and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Department are teaming up again, to hold another Grease Recycling and Pharmaceutical Disposal Event! On Saturday August 10, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., we will be at the Big Lots parking lot on Sidney Simon Boulevard and in our customer parking lot on Veterans Parkway collecting used cooking grease and old or unused medications. Please join us in our efforts to protect the environment by bringing your used cooking grease and old medications for recycling and proper disposal.

The recycling of old medications and used cooking grease are a part of our initiative to be good stewards of the environment. By collecting them, we help to prevent the clogging of sewer lines which can be costly as well as provide a supplemental power source for our wastewater treatment plant.

If you can’t make it to the event, there are also 11 stationary drop-off sites located throughout Columbus.  These sites are available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week for your convenience. Thank you for your assistance in keeping cooking grease out of the sewer lines.

Are you planning a landscaping project this summer?  If so, Columbus Water Works would like to remind our customers to make sure to have utility lines located before beginning any mechanized digging on your property.  Many utilities have their lines located underground.  If underground utility lines are not properly located before digging, you may be in store for an unpleasant surprise.   If utility lines are hit, you may cause harm to yourself, damage to the property and/ or impact the utility’s ability to provide services.  When a utility line is damaged and the lines were not marked, in accordance to state law, the person who damaged the line is responsible for repair costs.

At Columbus Water Works, we locate our lines in 2 colors: blue and green.  The blue lines indicate a water line and the green a sewer line.  Other utilities use different colors.
Utility Locate

Please remember to call before you dig! Just dial 811 or 1-800-282-4711 at least 48 hours before beginning your project to request a utility locate.
