Columbus Water Works Transitioning To Normal Operations with Additional Safety Provisions

As Muscogee County and the State of Georgia begin to re-open, Columbus Water Works (CWW) has begun to transition to normal (with provisions) operations over the next several weeks. Effective Monday, May 4, 2020, CWW began the transition process as outlined in our Coronavirus Preparedness Plan, which includes continued measures to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. As our staff transitions from remote working conditions to onsite with additional protocols, we are preparing to reopen our customer lobby.

On Monday, May 18, 2020, we will reopen our customer service lobby located at 1421 Veterans Parkway, Columbus GA 31901. In an effort to limit possible COVID-19 exposure to our customers and employees, we will only allow 5 customers in the building at a time.  We will also be checking temperatures and requiring customers to wear facemasks in order to enter the building. Customers who do not have a facemask or have a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, will not be permitted to enter the building. We will continue to provide customer account assistance and accept payments through the drive-thru, over the phone and via email.

In order to promote proper social distancing while waiting to enter the building, we will have a station setup outside the main entrance where you will be able to check in and secure your place in line. We ask that you wait in your car until it is your turn, at which time we will notify you.  We understand that these additional measures may require more time for our staff to assist you, and appreciate your understanding as we take the necessary precautions to ensure everyone’s safety. These measures are subject to change, pending the status of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we transition back to normal operations, we will be ending the temporary suspension of service disconnections for non-payment on May 31, 2020. We will resume with delinquent charges and non-payment disconnections on Monday, June 8, 2020. Please make sure your account is current or have established arrangements to prevent service interruption. We understand that many in our community are experiencing financial hardship as a result of the coronavirus. We are working with customers on a case by case basis to establish arrangements on their account.
