Earth Day
earth dayApril 22, 1970 marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement known as Earth Day.  Gaylord Nelson, a United States Senator from Wisconsin was the principle founder of Earth Day.  Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment.  On April 22, 2015, more than 500 million people and national governments in 175 countries will celebrate Earth’s Day with a goal of a healthy and sustainable environment.

AFLAC is hosting their annual Earth Day event which will be held at the Corporate Ridge location. Columbus Water Works and approximately twenty-five other vendors from the state of Georgia will participate in this celebration.  This celebration is held every year to bring environmental awareness to AFLAC’s employees.  The participating vendors help to achieve this goal in the following ways:
  • Helping the employees identify any environmental practices that are not earth friendly and to encourage them to improve upon any harmful habits or processes they are currently engaging
  • Encouraging employees to become more involved in going green (both in the home and in the workplace)
  • Providing educational information that will save energy, conserve water, promote wellness, save money and save the earth and how to apply this educational information
At AFLAC’s Earth Day celebration, Columbus Water Works will display meters, recycle information, backflow prevention information, Fog, Oil and Grease (F.O.G.) information and material on how to conserve water, how to detect and repair water leaks along with earth day material.
